Morzine is a working Savoyard market town at 1,000 m that became a ski resort without ever stopping being a town — slate roofs, a river through the middle, and shops that are not all ski shops.
It sits at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, around 600 km of piste linking twelve resorts across the French and Swiss border, and connects directly to Avoriaz by cable car. The lower altitude means tree skiing and atmosphere; the linked area means you rarely ski the same run twice. Winteride drives you in from Geneva in about ninety minutes.
