Valmorel was purpose-built in the 1970s but deliberately in traditional Savoyard style — low timber and stone buildings around a car-free pedestrian street, which is why it reads as a village rather than a development.
At 1,400 m it links with Saint-François-Longchamp to form Le Grand Domaine, around 165 km of piste. It has a long-standing reputation as one of the best family resorts in France, with ski-in ski-out accommodation and gentle terrain immediately above the village. Winteride drives you in from Geneva, Lyon or Chambéry.
